Wow. Kansas Sate has the most votes? Must be a lot of delusional Cat fans on here.

You've got to be kiddin Kansas State. How in the world do you expect to win the north with a Juco team. This was the best joke I've heard all day.

Responding to the Juco comment--looking at the years with the 3 biggest Juco recruiting classes at KSU:
1997
2002
2008
Results after second year with those classes:
1998 - Big XII North title
2003 - Big XII North title, Big XII title
2009 - ??
Jucos, despite their negative stigma, can contribute and help patch areas of need. (for KSU, read: defense) Not expecting KSU to set the world on fire this year, but Prince looks to be betting his contract on 2009.
With all that said, Missouri probably has the upper hand in the north this year.

Rebuttal regarding the Juco comment--I would agree with you that juco transfers do contribute to patch area of need. I totally agree but since when has 19 juco transfers in one season been considered a patch job? The years that you quote 1998 and 2003 were great teams for K-State. I would argue that those k-State teams already had developed and well established players in their system. My original response was based on the poll that K-State was going to win the North this year. I just have a hard time believing that 19 juco players are going to bring them to the top of the North. I understand that everyone in Manhattan is excited when football season arrives but there needs to be a reality check at some point. 19 is not a magical number.

19 might be a magical number, nobody has done it before, ever in history, so what does it really matter, so you're saying that it's 100% not going to work? If we win, what are you going to say next? If we lose, who cares, you're going to say we suck regardless so it's really a moot point. The good thing about prognostications is that nobody knows, that is what is so fun about all of this. If Rondog wins big with the 4 JUCOs listed as starters out of the 19, he'll look like a genius. If he loses, it'll look like a desparation attempt that failed miserably. Seriously, KU wins 12 games and everybody acts like Mangino has been doing it for years, when in reality, he was on a short leash last season, now, it would take the national guard to get him out of Lawrence. Winning consistently in college football is a fine line. KU was so close to a breakout season 2 seasons ago, but couldn't get it done and missed a bowl game. It could happen again this year. An unproven defensive coordinator is a dangerous thing to be banking a season on (see K-state). The world of sports is a strange paradigm.

Great stuff guys! Keep the debate going. I tend to agree with those of you who take the wait and see approach. I think ghost is all over it when he talks about Prince and Mangino having plenty to prove this year. If you don't think there's pressure on Mangino, you're crazy. New facility, better recruits, tougher schedule...this is his chance to validate last year. As for Prince, I think a bowl game is very doable, and would justify his huge JUCO class. Just because both coaches are fresh off extensions, doesn't mean the leashes aren't still very short.

Those KSU teams were primarily built up with high school talent. Snyder liked to utilize JUCOs to build depth and he found a few superstars there, but his bread and butter and the foundation of his teams were high school players. The success rate of JUCO players is just too inconsistent to expect to winner with them IMO. Way too risky. Prince needs to bring in quality high school players, and other than a few good ones, Prince has not impressed me at all with his recruiting of high school guys.
time will tell and I could be wrong, but I think Prince is killing the KSU program.
